Overview
Spend a full day inside Souss-Massa National Park — one of Morocco's most important wetland reserves — tracking flamingos and the critically endangered northern bald ibis along the Oued Massa estuary.
Souss-Massa National Park stretches 33,800 hectares of Atlantic coastline, river delta and arganeraie south of Agadir. The Oued Massa estuary is the single most reliable site in Morocco to see the northern bald ibis (waldrapp), a species once driven close to extinction, and the park's restoration programme has built a breeding colony of several hundred birds nesting on coastal cliffs.
Beyond the ibis, the reserve holds greater flamingos, Audouin's gulls and migrating waders on the mudflats, while inland enclosures protect Dama gazelle, Cuvier's gazelle and scimitar-horned oryx — species reintroduced after vanishing from Morocco. Your driver-guide navigates the park tracks with binoculars on hand, and a picnic lunch is taken beside the Oued Massa where the river meets the sea.

Day-by-day itinerary
Agadir → Agadir
- 1
08:00 · Departure from Agadir
AgadirYour driver collects you and heads south on the N1 coastal road. The park's northern boundary is reached in about 50 minutes, passing argan groves and the broad Souss rivermouth on the way.
- 2
09:00 · Bald Ibis Trail & Estuary Walk
Oued Massa EstuaryWalk the marked trail along the Oued Massa to the cliffside nesting ledges of the northern bald ibis. Your guide explains the ongoing conservation programme and identifies supporting species: marsh harriers quartering the reedbeds, little egrets along the bank, and Moussier's redstarts in the scrub.
- 3
11:00 · Flamingo Lagoon
Massa LagoonDrive to the lagoon observation point where greater flamingos often gather in the hundreds during winter and spring. The tidal mudflats attract a rotating cast of waders — avocets, black-winged stilts and sandpipers depending on season.
- 4
12:30 · Picnic at the River Mouth
Massa BeachLunch on the grassy bank where the Oued Massa opens onto the Atlantic — a wild, largely deserted beach backed by tamarisk scrub. The swim here is tempting but currents can be strong; your guide will advise.

14:00 · Gazelle & Oryx Reserve
Souss-Massa Inland ZoneDrive into the enclosed reserve section to look for Dama gazelle, Cuvier's gazelle and scimitar-horned oryx grazing among mature argan trees. A short walk through the reserve rounds off the wildlife portion of the day.

16:00 · Return to Agadir
AgadirReturn north on the N1, arriving back in Agadir by approximately 17:00.

Frequently asked
Questions about this tour.
Is "Souss-Massa National Park Wildlife Day" private or a group tour?
100% private. Just you and the people you book with — your own driver, vehicle and pace from start to finish. We never pool travellers.
Can I change the dates or itinerary?
Yes. Every itinerary is a starting point. Add a day, swap a riad, change the start city — we'll re-quote in 24 hours and lock the price in writing before any deposit.
How fit do I need to be?
Easy. Light walking on medina cobblestones, plus optional activities you can opt in or out of on the day.
When should I book?
Agadir is a year-round coast, but for peak weeks (Christmas, Easter and July–August) and anything involving Paradise Valley or the Anti-Atlas in spring, book 6–10 weeks ahead. Last-minute (under 14 days) is usually still possible with a phone call.
