Overview

A 3-day southern circuit from Agadir takes you through saffron country at Taliouine, over the Anti-Atlas to the vast Draa Valley palmeraie and the camel-trek dunes near Zagora — returning via Taroudant's rose-gold ramparts.

The route east from Agadir runs through Taroudant — enclosed in 16th-century ochre walls — before climbing the Anti-Atlas through Taliouine, Morocco's saffron capital, where fields of Crocus sativus bloom in October and November. The pass over the Jebel Sirwa range delivers you onto the pre-Saharan plateau and down into the Draa Valley, the longest river valley in Morocco, its floor carpeted with kilometres of unbroken palmery dotted with ksour (fortified Berber villages).

Zagora is the gateway to the Sahara here — the famous sign reading 'Tombouctou 52 jours' marks the old caravan route. An evening camel ride into the dunes south of town, followed by a night at a desert camp under an extraordinary dark sky, is the centrepiece of the trip. Day three returns via a kasbah at Agdz and the Draa river gorge before reaching Taroudant for lunch and the final run back to Agadir.

Trip highlights

  • Taroudant — walled city often called 'Little Marrakech', famous for its souks and orange groves
  • Taliouine: Morocco's saffron capital — visit a cooperative and buy authentic Crocus sativus
  • The Draa Valley palmeraie: kilometres of date palms lining one of Africa's most scenic river valleys
  • Sunset camel ride into the desert dunes south of Zagora
  • Night at a desert camp with Gnawa music and a sky full of stars
  • Return via the Draa gorge and the ksar of Agdz

Yes. Every itinerary is a starting point. Add a day, swap a riad, change the start city — we'll re-quote in 24 hours and lock the price in writing before any deposit.

How fit do I need to be?

Easy. Light walking on medina cobblestones, plus optional activities you can opt in or out of on the day.

When should I book?

Agadir is a year-round coast, but for peak weeks (Christmas, Easter and July–August) and anything involving Paradise Valley or the Anti-Atlas in spring, book 6–10 weeks ahead. Last-minute (under 14 days) is usually still possible with a phone call.
