Overview

A scenic drive north of Agadir leads to the Cascades d'Imouzzer, tumbling through wild argan forest and honey-producing Berber villages — best visited after autumn rains when the falls run full.

The road from Agadir climbs into the Ida Outanane massif, winding through one of the world's last wild argan groves before reaching the village of Imouzzer des Ida Outanane. The Cascades d'Imouzzer spill down a tiered limestone cliff above a café terrace where you can sip mint tea while watching the water. Flow peaks between November and March; in summer the falls slow to a trickle, but the gorge and argan landscape remain striking year-round.

The afternoon is spent in the village market (Thursday is souk day) and at a women's argan cooperative where you can watch traditional stone grinding and buy unrefined argan oil at source. A honey vendor selling wildflower, euphorbia and thyme varieties rounds out the local produce stop before the leisurely drive back down to Agadir.

Trip highlights

  • Walk to the base of the tiered Cascades d'Imouzzer in a limestone gorge
  • Drive through protected wild argan forest unique to southwest Morocco
  • Visit a women's argan cooperative and watch cold-press stone grinding
  • Sample locally produced thyme and wildflower honey from village sellers
  • Mint tea stop at the clifftop café overlooking the falls
  • Optional Thursday morning souk in Imouzzer village (seasonal)

Day-by-day itinerary

Agadir → Agadir

  1. 1

Morning · Agadir Pickup & Argan Forest Drive

Agadir → Imouzzer des Ida Outanane

Depart Agadir around 08:30 and head north. The road quickly leaves the Souss plain and enters the foothills, where roadsides are lined with argan trees — look for goats grazing in the branches. After roughly 45 minutes you reach the plateau edge above Imouzzer village.

  2. 2

Late Morning · The Cascades & Gorge Walk

    Cascades d'Imouzzer

A short path leads from the road-end car park down to the base of the Cascades d'Imouzzer. The main fall drops over a travertine lip into a pool fringed with oleander. Your guide explains the geology and the seasonal rain-fed hydrology. Allow 45 minutes at the falls, including the café terrace above.

  3. 3

Midday · Argan Cooperative & Honey Sellers

    Imouzzer des Ida Outanane village

Drive the short distance into the village centre to visit the local women's argan cooperative. A member demonstrates stone-grinding of argan kernels and explains the difference between culinary and cosmetic oil. Village honey vendors set up nearby — euphorbia and wildflower varieties make excellent gifts.

    Afternoon · Return to Agadir

Imouzzer des Ida Outanane → Agadir

After lunch depart around 14:00, stopping at a roadside viewpoint over the Souss plain on the descent. Arrive Agadir approximately 15:00–15:30, leaving the rest of the afternoon free.
