Why Ouzoud Falls
The Cascades d'Ouzoud, three hours from Marrakech in the Middle Atlas, are the loveliest waterfalls in the country — a 110-metre triple drop into a green gorge, often hung with rainbows in the afternoon spray. A shaded path zigzags down past olive terraces and old water mills (ouzoud is Berber for 'olives'), troops of wild Barbary macaques picking through the trees, and little boats nudging visitors right up to the foot of the falls. From the Agadir coast it's an inland excursion reached via Marrakech, and one we usually build into a wider tour rather than chase as a quick coastal day out.
What to see
A 110m three-tier waterfall crashing into a pool below — walk all the way down to the base, or take one of the small boats into the spray.
Wild but habituated monkeys live in the olive and oak woods alongside the path — give them room and keep your snacks zipped away.
An easy trail carries on below the falls into a green river gorge lined with riverside cafés and quiet spots for a swim.

Yes — it's the most rewarding nature day out from the city: thundering waterfalls, wild monkeys and a green gorge, a complete change from the medina and the desert. Set off early to stay ahead of the afternoon crowds.
About two and a half hours each way. A private day trip leaves you several hours at the falls and a long lunch above the cascades before the evening drive back.
