Why Dadès & Todra Gorges
Between Ouarzazate and the Sahara, the kasbah road threads through two of the most spectacular canyons in Morocco — the scenic high point of the southern loop guests join east of the Atlas, a long way inland from the Agadir coast. The Todra Gorge tightens to a 300-metre slot barely 10 metres across, catnip for rock climbers; the Dadès Gorge writhes through rose-tinted rock past the strange 'monkey-finger' formations and those much-photographed hairpin bends. Strung between them are palm oases, mudbrick kasbahs and, around Kelaat M'Gouna, the damask roses of the Valley of Roses.
What to see
A dizzying canyon where sheer 300m walls squeeze down to a narrow river passage — walk the floor at first light, before the coaches roll in.
The much-snapped hairpin road clawing its way out of the gorge, with a café terrace set exactly where you'd want it for the view.
The damask-rose fields around Kelaat M'Gouna, cut each May for rosewater — a fragrant spring detour off the main road.
A date-palm oasis dotted with earthen kasbahs, the beautifully restored Amerhidil among them.

Very much so — they rank among the most dramatic landscapes in Morocco and make a natural, scenic breather on the long desert run. The Todra's sheer walls and the Dadès switchbacks are highlights of any southern road trip.
Only as part of a multi-day southern loop, never a day trip. They lie east of the High Atlas on the kasbah road between Ouarzazate and Merzouga, so we work them into a Sahara route of three days or more from the Agadir side or via Marrakech.
