Day 1
Agadir → Taroudant → Taliouine → Zagora
Leave Agadir after breakfast, pause at Taroudant's ochre ramparts, then climb through Taliouine — Morocco's saffron capital — for a cooperative stop. Cross the Anti-Atlas and descend into the Draa Valley, checking in to a kasbah guesthouse in Zagora by late afternoon.
Day 2
Draa palmeraie, camel trek & desert camp
Drive the Draa palmeraie to the fortified ksar of Tamnougalt, then return for lunch and rest. Late afternoon you transfer to the dunes south of Zagora and mount camels for the sunset ride into the Sahara, with dinner and Gnawa drumming around the fire at a desert camp.
Day 3
Desert sunrise → return to Agadir via Taroudant
Wake for sunrise over the dunes, ride the camels back to breakfast, then retrace the route over the Anti-Atlas. Stop in Taroudant for a late lunch of mechoui or harira before arriving back in Agadir in the early evening.

Planning your desert trip, practically
Timing
Day one departs Agadir after an early breakfast for the long Anti-Atlas crossing. The camel trek is timed for sunset on day two; you ride again at sunrise before the drive home, arriving Agadir in the early evening on day three.
Distances
Taroudant ~80 km, Taliouine ~170 km, then over the Anti-Atlas to the Draa Valley and Zagora. It is a real overland journey — the scenery of saffron fields, kasbahs and palmeraie is part of the trip, not just the dunes.
Comfort & safety
Air-conditioned, 4x4 or minivan and private driver-guides. The desert camp is vetted, the camel leg is short and the route is paced for the longer driving days.
Group size
Typically 2–6 travellers per private vehicle. Larger families and groups are easy to arrange with a bigger 4x4 or minivan — just tell us your numbers.
Zagora desert tour from Agadir: frequently asked
How long is the desert tour from Agadir to Zagora?
It is a 3-day, 2-night private trip from $480 per person. The route crosses the Anti-Atlas via Taroudant and the saffron town of Taliouine to reach the Draa Valley and Zagora, where you sleep one night in a kasbah guesthouse and one night at a desert camp in the dunes before returning to Agadir on day three.
Can you do a Sahara desert tour from Agadir, not Marrakech?
Yes. Zagora is the closest Saharan gateway to Agadir, so you do not need to transfer to Marrakech first. Our private 3-day tour runs door-to-door from your Agadir hotel: you cross the Anti-Atlas, reach the Draa Valley palmeraie and the dunes south of Zagora, ride camels at sunset, sleep at a desert camp, and drive back — all without the city detour.
How much does the Zagora desert tour from Agadir cost?
The 3-day Zagora desert tour starts from $480 per person on a private basis, depending on group size and season. The price includes private 4x4 transport, a private driver-guide, the kasbah and desert-camp overnights, the sunset camel trek and the meals listed in the itinerary. Lunches not noted and tips are extra. Send your dates and party size for a written, itemised quote within 24 hours.
Is the camel trek and desert camp included?
Yes. A sunset camel ride into the dunes south of Zagora and a night at a desert camp — with dinner and Gnawa music around the fire — are both included in the 3-day tour. You ride the camels again at sunrise on day three. The camp is reached by 4x4 and then a short camel leg, so no long trek is required to arrive.
Is this a private tour or a shared group desert trip?
It is 100% private. The vehicle, the driver-guide and the pace are yours alone — just you and the people you book with. We never pool travellers, so you can linger in the Draa palmeraie, leave the camp early for sunrise photos or adjust the driving days entirely as you prefer.
When is the best time for a desert tour from Agadir?
Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) are ideal, with warm days and cool, clear desert nights. October and November also coincide with the Taliouine saffron harvest. Summer is possible but the Draa Valley is very hot at midday; winter nights in the dunes are cold but the days are bright — we provide guidance on packing for each season.
What should I bring for the overnight desert tour?
Pack layers — desert nights can drop sharply even after a hot day — plus a warm top, comfortable shoes, a sun hat, sunglasses and SPF. Bring a small overnight bag for the camp (your main luggage stays in the vehicle), a scarf for dust, a head-torch and any personal medication. Cash is useful for saffron, argan oil and Berber crafts along the route.
Is there a shorter alternative if I can't spare three days?
If three days is too long, the 2-day Tafraoute & Painted Rocks trip is a strong overland alternative — pink-granite Anti-Atlas scenery, Berber villages and the famous painted boulders, with one overnight in a Tafraoute guesthouse from $340 per person. It is not the Sahara, but it delivers a real multi-day southern Morocco experience in less time.
