About an hour northeast in the High Atlas foothills, Paradise Valley is a palm-fringed gorge on the Tamraght river with natural rock pools for swimming and cliff jumps — a refreshing half- or full-day escape from the coast.
Just up the coast (about 20–30 minutes), the laid-back surf villages of Taghazout and Tamraght offer Morocco's best-known waves, beach cafes, yoga and 'Banana Beach' — easy to combine with Paradise Valley.
South of the city, this coastal park of estuary, dunes and scrub shelters flamingos and the rare bald ibis, plus reintroduced oryx and gazelle in its reserve — a quiet trip for birders and nature lovers.
About 80 km east, the walled town of Taroudant sits ringed by superb ochre ramparts amid the Souss plain, with lively souks and a relaxed pace — a rewarding cultural full day.
Around 90 minutes south, Tiznit is Morocco's silver-jewellery capital, a red-walled town with a famous silversmiths' souk and the Lalla Tiznit spring at its heart.
A bigger day (around 2.5–3 hours) into the Anti-Atlas, Tafraoute sits among pink granite boulders and almond groves, near the surreal blue-and-pink Painted Rocks — spectacular, and best in almond-blossom season.
South down the Atlantic (around 2.5 hours), the Spanish-colonial town of Sidi Ifni and the dramatic red sea arches of Legzira make a memorable coastal day for those wanting wild beaches.
The best day trips from Agadir are Paradise Valley, the surf villages of Taghazout and Tamraght, Souss-Massa National Park, the walled town of Taroudant, the silver town of Tiznit, Tafraoute in the Anti-Atlas, and Sidi Ifni with Legzira Beach.
Paradise Valley is about an hour northeast of Agadir in the High Atlas foothills, making it one of the easiest and most popular half- or full-day trips, often combined with Taghazout on the coast.
Agadir is on the Atlantic coast, not at the Sahara, so true desert dunes are a multi-day trip. For a taste of the south in a day, the Anti-Atlas around Tafraoute or the Souss plain towns of Taroudant and Tiznit are the realistic options.
