Day by day

Your 5-day plan

  1. 1

    Day 1

Agadir bay & the road to Taroudant

Start on Agadir's long crescent bay — the marina, the corniche and the Souk El Had — then head inland across the Souss plains to Taroudant, only about an hour and a quarter away. The red-earth ramparts circle an unhurried market town often called 'little Marrakech', best seen on a slow evening walk or a horse-and-cart lap of the walls.

    • Agadir Bay
    • Souk El Had
    • Taroudant ramparts
    • 'Little Marrakech'
  2. 2

    Day 2

Tiout oasis & on to Tiznit

A short drive east of Taroudant brings the Tiout palm oasis, a green ribbon of date palms beneath a hilltop kasbah where you can walk the irrigation paths and orchards. In the afternoon, cut southwest to Tiznit, the walled town famous across Morocco for its silver jewellery, with a workshop-lined silver souk inside the old ramparts.

    • Tiout oasis
    • Hilltop kasbah
    • Tiznit ramparts
    • Silver souk
  3. 3

    Day 3

    Into the Anti-Atlas to Tafraoute

Climb from Tiznit up into the Anti-Atlas to Tafraoute — roughly two and three-quarter hours of winding, scenic road from Agadir via Tiznit. The town sits in a bowl of giant pink granite boulders that turn rose-gold at sunset, ringed by almond groves and the Berber villages of the Ameln Valley below the 'lion's face' of Jebel Lkest.

    • Anti-Atlas pass
    • Tafraoute
    • Pink granite boulders
    • Ameln Valley
  4. 4

    Day 4

Painted Rocks, then back toward the coast

Catch the famous Painted Rocks — smooth boulders washed blue and red by a Belgian artist in 1984 — and a last look at the granite valley, then begin the descent back toward the Atlantic. Rejoin the coast in the foothills above Agadir, trading mountains for argan country and the first sight of the sea.

    • Painted Rocks
    • Almond groves
    • Mountain descent
    • Argan country
  5. 5

    Day 5

Paradise Valley, Imouzzer & the surf coast

Close the loop with the green side of Agadir: the palm-shaded rock pools of Paradise Valley, about an hour from the city, and the waterfalls and honey country around Imouzzer des Ida Outanane. Drop down to the laid-back surf village of Taghazout for a beach café and the points before the short run back to Agadir for departure.

    • Paradise Valley pools
    • Imouzzer waterfalls
    • Taghazout surf coast
    • Agadir return

Good to know

Practical notes

  • This is a genuine loop, not an out-and-back: Agadir → Taroudant → Tiznit → Tafraoute → Paradise Valley → Agadir, so you see new country almost every day.
  • Rough drive times: Agadir–Taroudant about 1h15, Tiznit–Tafraoute through the mountains a bit over 2h (around 2h45 from Agadir via Tiznit), and Paradise Valley about 1h from Agadir.
  • Late winter and spring are the sweet spot — pleasant mountain temperatures and the Tafraoute almond blossom, usually in February. Paradise Valley pools are fullest in spring and after rain, lower in late summer.
  • The Souss and Anti-Atlas are relaxed, rural Morocco — carry water and some cash, and a local driver-guide makes the mountain roads and village stops far easier.

Frequently asked

How is this different from the Anti-Atlas mountain itinerary?

Both spend time around Taroudant and Tafraoute, but this is a wider circular loop rather than a mountain-immersion trip. It adds the Tiout palm oasis, the silver town of Tiznit and a green coastal finish at Paradise Valley and the Taghazout surf coast, so you sample the whole south — plains, oasis, mountains and coast — and return on a different road instead of doubling back.

Is five days enough to loop the Souss and Anti-Atlas?

Yes, for a relaxed sampler. The legs are short and scenic — Agadir to Taroudant is about 1h15 and Tafraoute roughly 2h45 via Tiznit — so five days comfortably links the ramparts, oasis, silver souk, pink-granite valley and the Paradise Valley pools without rushing. Add a night if you want more time in the Ameln Valley villages.

What is Tiznit known for?

Tiznit is Morocco's silver-jewellery town — its walled medina holds a long-established silver souk where artisans still work traditional Berber designs, making it the natural craft stop between Taroudant's ramparts and the granite scenery of Tafraoute.
